Network Meeting Latvia, February 2017

It starts to become a tradition! The first weekend of February is Outdoors as a Tool Network Meeting time! So as this year, this time it took place in snowy Latvia, where we were hosted by our friends of ‘Adventure Spirit’ on their venue ‘Rites’.

On Friday evening we all arrived on Rites where we there was time to catch up with each other and share all adventures and experiences from last year. There were also some new partners involved, welcome to Belgium and Germany! After a nice meal and a round of expectations the werewolves came by ofcourse and when there were no villagers and inhabitants left, it was time to have a good sleep.

Saturday was work day. What happened last year? What is about to happen this year? Where do we want to go as network? What is our structure? And in what do we want to develop? All these questions came by and there were some good discussions and decision made. After a good lunch we had to refresh our mind and went for a hike in the snow with on the way a great game of tagging on ice in a special Latvian way… In the afternoon we had some time to work in smaller groups on specific topics.

Sunday was unfortunately already departure day. For some of us it was early, for others there was still some time to work on this or that. After all we can say that it was a shot but good and powerful meeting again. It’s great to see that we see each other more frequently and that the network is growing bigger and stronger.  We are ready for a new season with interesting international programs and good cooperation’s. Curious what is going to happen in 2017? Check the What’s next? page or contact us!

Venue:

Piedzīvojuma Gars House, Ķegums district, Latvia

During the meeting we will stay at the house Ritis, near Birzgale in Latvia. This is a house, outdoor location, sauna and whatever more from the organisation Piedzivojuma Gars. And yes, WiFi is available…
Place where we will be having our meeting is an old countryside house. There is no ruining water in this place, but we will try to set up outdoor showers with hot water.

Travel:

If you come by car, you should drive like this (if you come from
kaunas) https://www.google.lv/maps/dir/56.670562,24.7920577/54.9429332,23.8790794/@56.163
0898,24.4124285,8z/data=!4m3!4m2!1m0!1m0
In this route you will be driving also some dirt roads (20km), but you can also take the long way and go trough Riga, then it will be just asphalt (but in LV that doesn’t mean that the road will be better
than a dirt road) If you travel by plane/public transport make sure you end up in Riga . And that you let Floor and Lynx
know at what time you will arrive so we can arrange transport to the venue for you!

Meals:

We will provide meals three times a day, and in between there will be lots of snacks, fruit, nuts and things like that. Also drinks like coffee, tea, water and some juices will be available. We will cook all
together as we are just a small group together in the house. Also dishes and cleaning will be done together. You can bring some food or drinks that you want to share if you like.

What to take: IMG_0175

Most important is to bring a good mood, but of course there are some practical things that might be
useful as well.

  • Sleeping bag and mattress, (If you don’t have, or u can’t take it with you in plane, there are
spare mattresses, but not so many sleeping bags)
  • Warm and comfortable clothing for indoors as well as outdoors. Inside there are cold
floors, so take warm socks, and there might be draft from windows or holes in house, so
    warm sweaters.
  • Slippers or shoes for inside, cause we don’t want to get mud in the house, but we also
don’t want to walk in the house just by socks.
  • If you can: bring your own spoon, bowl, and tea mug. (There is also cutlery on place, but
    maybe not enough for everyone)
  •  Flashlight might be useful
  • Inventory for your workshop or activity if applicable.
  • There will be WIFI, so you can bring your laptop or smartphones.
  • Swimming suit and towels. Just for your personal hygiene (there will be warm outdoor
showers) and maybe there will be sauna!
  • Travel insurance might be useful

Fee:

Unfortunately we don’t have funding for the meeting this year so the cost is your own travel and a share in the cost of the food and drinks. We will calculate this at the end of the meeting, but
don’t expect high numbers here. The venue is offered for free by Piedzivojuma Gars.

Buitendoor invites for tree house building!

Homeless this summer? And feeling like leaving the lazy chair for a new experience? It’s hard working for the house of your dreams, because we have to: dragging, sawing, climbing, knots and nailing… But after all, nothing is better then waking up in a self made treehouse.

We start in the woods of the Veluwe with a stack of wood, ropes and climbing materials. Everyday our house will grow up to 13 meters so that you can sleep, cook, take a shower and in the end chill in it. Who knows, maybe we will build a sauna on this height. Because after a week of building with a group, we will enjoy our creation for a few days.

Our goal is to meet new people, create a new home in the trees, experience/ learn/co-operate, challenges and most important of all, having an unforgetable summer.

Practical information

Dates: 18 t/m 26 July 2015 (9 days)
Age: 16 – 35 years
Price:  395,-
Venue: Veluwe (Near the village Nunspeet)
